Ali Panahi, 75, died in an Orange County car accident that occurred the afternoon of August 13, 2009 when he was struck crossing an Irvine street intersection in California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Panahi died a day after he was hit by a car traveling through the intersection of Barranca Parkway and West Yale Loop. An Irvine woman was heading south on West Yale Loop in her Hyundai Accept when she struck Panahi. Anyone with information about this car-pedestrian accident is asked to call Irvine Police Detective Jonathan Cherney at 949-724-7024.

California Car Accident Caused By Tire Blowout

Three people suffered injuries in a California car accident after a tire blowout caused the driver to lose control of the car, which rolled over on the Highway 1 in Santa Barbara, California. According to a news article in the Santa Barbara Daily Sound, the three occupants of the southbound vehicle were ejected as it rolled several times the morning of August 12, 2009. One person suffered serious injuries while the other two sustained moderate injuries. All three were taken to a local hospital, California Highway Patrol officials said.

My heart goes out to all three victims here, who apparently suffered injuries. I’m glad that this accident like other recent tire blowout crashes in California did not cause catastrophic or fatal injuries. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Black & Decker is reissuing a defective product recall involving about 200,000 of its GH1000 Grasshog XP String trimmers and edgers because of growing injuries, according to a news report in Consumeraffairs.com. The defective trimmer’s spool, spool cap and pieces of trimmer string can come loose when it is being used and become airborne projectiles, posing a serious personal injury hazard to the user as well as bystanders. These trimmers can also apparently overheat posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Orange County Ford Explorer Rollover Car Accident

One person was injured in an Orange County car accident after the SUV that person was in rolled over and crashed on the 57 Freeway in Anaheim, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the car crash was reported the morning of August 6, 2009 in the northbound lanes of the freeway near Wagner Avenue. California Highway Patrol officials said four people were in the Explorer at the time of the car crash and that one man was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Honda Expands Defective Product Recall Involving Airbags

Honda is now expanding its defective auto product recall involving faulty airbags in its Honda Accord, Civic and Acura TL models. According to a report in the Car Connection Web site, the airbag inflators in these cars can over-pressurize the airbag causing the inflator itself to rupture and project metal fragments that could puncture the airbag material and cause serious injuries to occupants. The metal fragments can apparently pass through the cloth airbag cushion material causing personal injury or death. This auto product defect has reportedly caused six known injuries and one death so far. This auto product recall originally started in November 2008 and now involves 440,000 vehicles in all, including some 2001-2002 Honda Accords, 2002-2003 Acura TL, and 2001 Civic models.
