Halloween Product Recall Involves Defective Flashlights
The major national retailer, Target, is issuing a defective product recall for about 600,000 Halloween flashlights because they can apparently overheat and melt causing burn injuries. According to a news report in Consumeraffairs.com, Target has so far received eight reports of flashlights overheating and melting, including one report of burn injuries to the hand. This product recall involves two varieties of Halloween-themed flashlights -- the mini flashlights and the kind of flashlights sold with stencils.
Defective Flashlights Pose Burn Hazard
The mini flashlights involved in this product defect recall have a key ring extending from the bottom and were sold in a pack of three colors: orange, green and black. Standard size flashlights included in the recall have black handles and an orange top. The flashlights were sold with six stencils in various Halloween-themed images including a pumpkin, ghost, cat, spider, witch, and skull and cross bones. The flashlights were made in China and sold at Target stores nationwide from August 2009 through September 2009. The mini flashlights were sold for $1 and the standard size flashlights were sold for $2.50. Those who have these flashlights at home are asked to stop using them immediately and return them to a Target store for a full refund.
Halloween can be a scary time when it comes to product safety. Hundreds of products are imported by major retailers and I wonder what quality control standards are involved. Parents must inspect not only all of the candy before their children consume it, but also test the products at home if possible before the little ghouls and goblins can carry them out to the street.
Products Liability Issues
If you or a loved one has been seriously injured as a result of these or any other defective product, please contact an experienced California personal injury lawyer who can tell you more about your legal rights and options. Please remember that product manufacturers are liable for the defective products they put on the market. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages (where applicable) and other related damages.
Please have a happy and safe Halloween!
