Nissan Recalls Vehicles for Steering Defect

Nissan North America is issuing a vehicle defect recall for 163,659 of its Rogue compact crossovers from model year 2008 and 2009 because of an issue that could affect steering wheel response and cause a car crash. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a safety alert cautioning consumers about a screw in the steering gear housing that can become loose and fall out. If that occurs, officials say that the steering response can become compromised.

Steering Defects Can be Devastating

They say that in the worst-case scenario, it could result in a complete loss of steering control and result in a catastrophic car accident. Nissan dealers will fix the problem by inspecting the screw and tightening it again to the proper specification. A cover plate will also be installed to prevent the screw from falling out.

Steering defects are extremely serious and have the potential to result in car accidents, which cause catastrophic injuries or death. The most common vehicle defects involving the steering mechanism occur when the steering locks up or the power steering system fails. In this particular case, it seems that the screw can come loose and fall off suddenly as the vehicle is in motion. This could lead to sudden and unexpected loss of steering control, which could cause even an experienced driver to lose control of the vehicle. At freeway speeds, such a car crash could result in serious personal injury or even death.

Auto Products Liability Issues

Individuals who have been seriously injured as a result of an auto product defect would be well advised to consult with a reputed California personal injury lawyer who has extensive experience and an impeccable track record handling and winning auto product liability cases. If you have been injured as a result of a vehicle defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective auto product could be held liable for your injuries. Typically, victims are able to seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of earnings, and cost of hospitalization or even long-term care. In cases where defective products are involved, families of deceased victims may choose to bring a wrongful death claim against the manufacturer seeking damages.
