Umbrella Strollers Recalled for Injury Hazard to Children
Maclaren is issuing a defective product recall for about 1 million umbrella strollers because of a side hinge that poses serious injury risk to young children. According to an MSNBC news report, a side hinge mechanism in these defective strollers poses the risk of cutting or amputating a child's fingers when the stroller is being opened or closed. This product recall applies to all Maclaren strollers that were sold in the United States since 1999. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has apparently received reports of 15 incidents in which children were hurt in the past 10 years.
Several Stroller Models Recalled
The models that are affected by this recall include Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller. The strollers, which are made in China, were sold at retail outlets nationwide. Those who own one of these strollers are asked to stop using them right away. The company is providing consumers and retailers with free repair kits that will cover a joint on the defective hinge mechanism.
A number of children's products have been recalled over the last five years. Many of them involved cribs and beds that posed entrapment hazards. Several major recalls also involved lead-tainted toys made in China. These recalled Maclaren products might not pose the risk of death as those other dangerous and defective products did. Still, they pose the risk of serious injuries where children may lose their fingers.
Product Liability Issues
If you or a loved one has been seriously injured by a defective product, please consult with a reputed personal injury lawyer in California who has a successful track record handling products liability lawsuits. Product manufacturers and distributors are responsible for the defective products they put in the market. Many manufacturers put products in the market and continue selling them even when they know it is defective. In this particular case, these defective strollers have been in the market for 10 years and the manufacturer has consistently received injury reports with regard to the defective side hinge mechanism. But the company did nothing about it. Several injuries to young children could have been prevented had they conducted this product recall years ago and fixed this defect.

Comments
I think, almost all strollers have this same hinge mechanic! Maclaren is just the 1st to offer it's appologies. Watch your kids & put potential danger where they are not able to get them. Order the free hinge covers. When choosing any product for your child, safety is your utmost concern.
