JC Penney Recalls Defective Gas Grills for Fire Hazard
JC Penney has issued a defective product recall for more than 5,000 Cooks Outdoor Grills because the grills pose a fire and burn injury hazard to consumers. According to a news report in Consumeraffairs.com, the company has received 11 reports of fires as a result of inadequate drainage. The drip pan on the grill apparently does not allow for proper drainage leading to potential fire hazards. So far no injuries have been reported.
Grills Pose Burn Injury Risk
This product recall involves Cooks brand outdoor BBQ grills. The grills involved in this product defect recall have a digital thermometer on the hood, a stainless steel top and global LP regulator. The grills were manufactured in China and sold at JC Penney stores nationwide and online at www.jcp.com between February 2009 and September 2009 for between $190 and $600. If you own one of these grills, please stop using it right away and take it to a JC Penney store for a full refund. Consumers are also asked to contact JC Penney to find out how to disconnect the gas regulator and hose. This must be done to ensure that the grills are not usable.
