Two Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

Adrian Garcia, 25, and Maribel Rico, 31, died in a Los Angeles car accident early morning on February 6, 2010. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the fatal car accident occurred on the westbound 60 Freeway near Crossroads Parkway in the City of Industry. California Highway Patrol officials said Garcia was driving a 2007 Toyota when he lost control and crashed the car. Both Garcia and Rico, who was a passenger in the Toyota, died from their injuries. CHP officials are still investigating the cause of this accident.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Adrian Garcia and Maribel Rico for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP's 2007 traffic accident statistics, there were seven fatalities and 236 injuries involving car accidents in the City of Industry. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 people died and 56,475 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Auto Products Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why Garcia lost control of the Toyota and crashed. Given the fact that this was a 2007 model Toyota vehicle, it would be important to look into whether this vehicle was one of the more than 8 million vehicles recalled by Toyota Motor Corp. for defective gas pedals or floor mats that could cause sudden and unintended acceleration. If I were a member of these victims' family, I would look into whether this car accident was caused by a Toyota vehicle defect. To determine whether there were any auto product defects or malfunctions, it is critical to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, and have it carefully examined by an expert.
