Volvo Cars is issuing an auto defect recall for about 8,400 of its S80 cars for a problem with its power steering. According to a Reuters news report, the recall involves 2007 model year cars manufactured between March 8, 2006 and May 16, 2007. The problem involves a hose at the steering gear that could rupture and cause a sudden loss of power steering. This could increase the risk of a potential crash.
When the recall begins next month, Volvo dealers will inspect the cars and make repairs as needed and at no charge. The company has estimated 6 percent of the vehicles in the group would be defective. Volvo officials say they have not received any reports so far of car accidents or injuries related to the issue.
