One person was injured in an Anaheim car accident after two cars collided at a local intersection the morning of April 21, 2010. The Orange County Register reports that the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Stonybrook Drive and Gilbert Street and involved a Honda Accord and a Ford taxi van. The driver of the Accord was transported to the hospital with injuries. The taxi driver was uninjured. Anaheim police said it was a T-bone crash, but have not said who was at fault for the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
I hope the driver of the Honda Accord has not suffered any major injuries. I wish him or her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. This injured victim will be in my prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries involving car accidents in Anaheim, California. In Orange County as a whole, car accidents claimed 152 lives and injured 13,414 people in 2008.
T-Bone Crashes
Based on the information in this news article, it is not clear how or why this collision occurred. However, it is clear that it occurred at a street intersection. T-bone crashes are broadside crashes that involve a collision occurring at a right angle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that about 62 percent of all fatal side-angle crashes each year are broadside crashes. Such side-impact car accidents can cause catastrophic injuries or death because the sides of vehicles offer far less protection from the impact of a crash than the front or back of the vehicle.
Causes and Liability Issues
In this particular case, there are several questions still remaining. Who caused the accident? Did one of the driver fail to yield right-of-way? Did one of the drivers run a red light? Was there any negligence or wrongdoing involved on the part of either driver? Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction that caused one of the drivers to lose control? I trust officials are investigating all the details of this incident in order to determine exactly how or why it occurred.
