Moises Alvarez Viscaino, 36, of Palmdale, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was ejected from his overturning pickup truck, the morning of January 27, 2012. According to a news report in The Associated Press, the fatal car accident occurred on the Avenue R alignment in the Little Rock Wash near 90th Street East. California Highway Patrol officials say Viscaino’s pickup truck rolled over and that he was thrown out of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured. Officials are investigating the cause of this fatal crash.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Moises Alvarez Viscaino for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 227 fatalities and 25,043 injuries involving car accidents in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 554 people died and 50,817 were injured due to car accidents, during the same year.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused Viscaino to lose control of his vehicle and crash. There are several questions that remain here. Was there an auto defect or mechanical malfunction in the vehicle, which may have caused it to go out of control? Did a design defect cause the rollover accident? Were any other drivers involved? For example, was Viscaino cut off or clipped by another vehicle? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this accident? Why was Viscaino ejected from the pickup? Was he not buckled up or was he thrown out due to a seatbelt defect? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine how or why this car accident occurred.

Liability Issues

In such cases, it would be a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, so it can be examined carefully for defects, malfunctions and other evidence. Families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. If a defective auto product caused the accident or Viscaino’s fatal injuries, then, the automaker or the manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable.
