David Cravens, 22, and Shedel Lamando, 21, both San Diego County residents, were killed in a Bakersfield area car accident just after midnight on September 24, 2011. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the fatal crash occurred on Interstate 5 in Lost Hills northwest of Bakersfield. Cravens was driving a Ford Explorer SUV north on the freeway when for an unknown reason, he lost control. The SUV crashed through the center median and collided with a box truck in the southbound lanes. Both vehicle rolled over. Cravens and Lamando were pronounced dead at the scene. The 48-year-old truck driver was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Everyone involved was buckled up.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of David Cravens and Shedel Lamando for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers. I also wish the injured truck driver the very best for a quick and full recovery.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 129 fatalities and 3,061 injuries involving car accidents in Kern County. Also, car accidents claimed 101 lives and caused 1,694 injuries in the unincorporated areas of the county, during the same year.
What Caused This Fatal Crash?
It is unclear from this report as to what caused Cravens to lose control of the Explorer. Was there an auto defect or mechanical malfunction in the Explorer which may have caused or contributed to this incident? Was there a design flaw in the SUV that caused it to become unstable and go out of control? Was the accident due to driver error? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
Liability Issues
It would be a good idea here to preserve the Ford Explorer in its current, crashed condition so an expert can examine it for defects, malfunctions, design issues and other evidence. In such cases, an experienced California personal injury lawyer will be able to advise families of deceased victims about their legal rights and options. The best auto defect law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.

Such a tragedy. They were so young and had a full life ahead of them. But if they were your friends and they did engage in any illegal drugs at these raves (that i see so many pictures of them attending), then you are not much of a friend at all. If you knew that these individuals would get behind a wheel under the influence of ANYTHING, you are not a good friend. Period.
