Kimqui Le Nguyen, 34, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after she lost control of her car and crashed. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred the morning of August 19, 2011 on Highway 330, near Highland Avenue, in Highland. California Highway Patrol officials say Nguyen was driving a Mazda MX6 car north on the highway, when she lost control of the vehicle, swerved across double yellow lines and then overcorrected, before going over a dirt embankment. The vehicle fell 175 feet to the bottom of the mountainside. Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Kimqui Le Nguyen for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 81 were injured in car accidents in Highland. In San Bernardino County as a whole, car accidents claimed 223 lives and injured 7870 people, during the same year.

What Caused the Crash?

Based on this news report, it is unclear as to what caused Nguyen to lose control of her car. Was there an auto defect or mechanical malfunction in the vehicle that may have caused her to lose control? Did a dangerous condition on the roadway lead to the accident? Was there another vehicle involved? For example, did another vehicle cut her off, or run her off the roadway? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine how or why this fatal injury accident occurred.

Liability Issues

If this accident was caused by an auto defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable for Nguyen’s wrongful death. In such cases, it is always a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current, crashed state – unaltered, so it can be carefully examined for product defects, malfunctions, design flaws, and other evidence. The family of a deceased auto accident victim would be well-advised to contact an experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
