A 35-year-old man was injured in a Los Angeles car accident after he lost control of his Toyota Corolla and crashed into three other cars and a concrete wall. According to a report in The Glendale News-Press, the injury collision occurred the afternoon of January 24, 2012. The Sunland man was driving east on Foothill Boulevard toward Boston Avenue when the incident occurred.
Police say a preliminary investigation shows the Toyota’s brakes failed, which caused the victim to lose control. He struck a vehicle twice and then broadsided another vehicle that was stopped at a red light at Foothill and Boston. The man was driving between 50 and 60 mph in what was a 40-mph zone. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported. An investigation is ongoing.
My heart goes out to the injured victim of this collision. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Car Accident Statistics
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were three fatalities and 779 injuries involving Glendale car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 554 people died and 50,817 were injured due to car accidents, during the same year.
Auto Products Liability Issues
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver lost control of the Toyota Corolla because of brake failure. It is unclear if this collision was caused by an auto defect or some type of mechanical malfunction. In such cases, it would be a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined by an expert for evidence of defects or malfunctions.
If this accident was caused by a defective product, then, the automaker or the manufacturer of the faulty product can be held liable for the resulting injuries and damages. Injured victims in such cases can file an auto product liability claim seeking compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who has successfully handled product defect and auto products liability cases. The best auto defect law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to car accident victims and their families.
