The driver of a pickup truck was killed in a fiery Los Angeles car accident after his vehicle blew a tire and then crashed into a concrete wall on the 210 Freeway. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the accident occurred the afternoon of November 22, 2009 on the westbound lanes of the freeway in La Canada Flintridge. California Highway Patrol officials said the impact from the collision sent debris flying into the eastbound lanes of the highway striking two vehicles and a motorcyclist, who was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this deceased victim. It is a relief however, that no one else sustained serious injuries in this horrific crash. I also wish the injured motorcyclist the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep the family of the deceased victim in your prayers.
Los Angeles Car Accidents
There were 260 deaths and 27,110 injuries involving car accidents in Los Angeles in 2007, according to CHP’s traffic accident statistics. Also, countywide, 712 people died and 56,475 were injured as a result of car accidents in 2007.
If this news report is accurate, it appears that a tire blowout led to this car accident. If I were a member of the victim’s family, I would want to know whether a vehicle defect — specifically a defective tire — caused or contributed to this fatal accident. If that was the case, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective auto product could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries. It would be a good idea to preserve the damaged tire if possible so it can be carefully examined for any evidence of product defects.
