Two people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident when the vehicle in which they were traveling went out of control and rolled over, the morning of October 24, 2010. According to a news report in The Daily Breeze, the injury car accident occurred on Artesia Boulevard near Ainsworth Drive in Torrance. The two occupants were westbound on Artesia in a Ford station wagon, when for unknown reasons it drifted to the right side before hitting a parked car and rolling over. The two people, both in their 30s, were hospitalized for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. An investigation into the incident is pending.

My thoughts and prayers are with the two injured victims of this Torrance car accident. I wish them both a speedy and complete recovery from their injuries.

Los Angeles Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), nine people were killed and 480 were injured in Torrance car accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 deaths and 52,229 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Rollover Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not entirely clear what caused this rollover accident. There are several questions here. Was this car accident the result of a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction? Did a dangerous roadway condition contribute to the rollover? Were any other vehicles involved? For example, was the driver of the Ford run off the roadway by another driver or thrown off by an unsafe lane change? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine how or why this injury car accident occurred.

Claim for Compensation

If this rollover accident was caused by a design flaw or some type of auto product defect, then the auto maker could be held liable for the accident and injuries caused. In such cases, it would be a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its current, crashed condition so it can be carefully examined for vehicle defects, design flaws and other malfunctions.

A skilled Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will also be able to determine whether a hazardous roadway contributed to the car accident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Please remember that any personal injury claim against a public entity in California must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.

Personal Injury Claims

Victims of negligent drivers often face substantial financial hardships in addition to their physical injuries. In such cases, accident victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and other related damages.

It would also be in victims’ best interests not to talk to insurance adjusters or attorneys for other parties until they have talked to their own injury lawyer. It is critical that victims do not sign agreements or rush into settlements before their injuries have been properly and completely assessed. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims and their families about their legal rights and options.
