Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one fatality and 120 injuries were reported in Long Beach as a result of motorcycle accidents. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 85 fatalities and 2,792 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of motorcycle accidents.

Based on this newspaper report, it is unclear to Los Angeles County car accident lawyers why this fatal motorcycle crash may have occurred. The news account mentions that the motorcyclist may have been traveling “at a high rate of speed,” but does not offer any further information. In such cases, there could be a variety of reasons why a motorcyclist lost control. Of course, it is possible the accident was caused by excessive speed or inexperience on part of the rider or even a combination of both. But, there are many questions that still arise here. Was there a mechanical problem or auto product defect issue with the motorcycle? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Were any other vehicles involved?

Consulting An Experienced Personal Injury Lawyer

If you have lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident and believe that the accident may not have been the rider’s fault, you would be well-advised to consult with an experienced Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorney who will stay on top of the official investigation, look into all the details of the incident and determine exactly who or what caused the crash. If a vehicle defect was involved then the manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable. If the accident was caused by a dangerous roadway condition, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could also be held liable. Any claim against a public or governmental entity in California must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury. The best California personal injury lawyer will always offer a free and comprehensive initial consultation to injury victims and/or their families.
