A woman who was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after being ejected from a 1995 Jeep, has been identified as 46-year-old Debra Ann Davis. According to a news report in The San Bernardino Sun, the driver of the Jeep lost control on the 15 Freeway near Kenwood Drive after the left rear tire blew. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene and other passengers were taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries is not known.
My heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved Debra Ann Davis for their tragic and devastating loss. They will be in my prayers.
Rollover Accidents
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 10,000 fatalities occur each year as a result of rollover accidents in the United States. That accounts for an estimated 25 percent of all traffic accident deaths nationwide. A majority of rollover accident fatalities involve SUVs and a good number of them are caused by defective tires.
Auto Products Liability Issues
If the details of this news report are accurate, this rollover accident occurred because the tire blew out and the driver lost control of the vehicle. It is also not clear whether a seat restraint system or seatbelt defects in the Jeep caused Davis to be thrown from the vehicle. If I were one of the injured victims or one of Davis’ family members, I would want to find out whether a defective tire caused the blowout. It is a well-known fact that when a tire blows out, it is difficult even for an experienced driver to control the vehicle. In some cases tire blowouts can also occur because of poor tire maintenance. These types of incidents constantly remind us about the need for proper tire and vehicle maintenance.
In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well-advised to consult with a reputed California personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled auto products liability cases. The vehicles in such accidents should also be preserved in tact, so they can be thoroughly examined by an expert for any evidence of product defects or malfunctions.
