California Personal Injury Lawyers File Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Ford, Bridgestone and Seatbelt Manufacturer

The California personal injury lawyers of Bisnar | Chase have filed a products liability and wrongful death lawsuit against Ford Motor Corporation, Bridgestone Tire Corporation and TRW Vehicle Safety Systems.

The case stems from the April 2009 death of Milton Perry Jr. in a rollover crash. Perry was driving a 1991 Ford Ranger SUV when one of his tires blew out, causing him to lose control of his car. The SUV then rolled over several times and ejected Perry who suffered serious injuries that led to his death.

The wrongful death lawsuit alleges that the SUV manufactured by Ford failed to properly protect Perry during the car crash and that Bridgestone was aware that its tires were unsafe. It also claims that the SUV's restraint system, manufactured by TRW Vehicle Safety Systems, were inadequate to protect an occupant during a rollover crash.

The passengers where injured in the rollover accident after a minivan carrying a driver and four farm workers in Taft, California, overturned and crashed the afternoon of May 27, 2009, the Taft Midway Driller reports. Tire failure or tire tread separation are among the most common car product defects which cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles, especially when they are traveling at freeway speeds. When a tire blows out, the vehicle tends to go out of control and it is tough, even for experienced drivers, to correct such a situation. At least 10,000 people die each year in rollover accidents in the United States, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Defective Motorcycle Tires

Defective Bridgestone Motorcycle Tires Recalled

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operation (BATO) is recalling certain batches of Bridgestone Exedra G850 G defective motorcycle tires sold for MY 2008 and 2009 Triumph Rocket III Touring motorcycles, according to a report in Consumeraffairs.com. Apparently, the motorcycles which come with these tires develop a great deal of torque and can cause "torque-induced degradation" in a body ply, which may result in inner-liner cracking and lead to a slow leak in the rear tire. When the defective tires are used continuously, they may start to vibrate at moderate speeds or even lead to a motorcycle crash.

Bridgestone is working with Triumph to notify owners. The defective tires will be replaced free of charge. Also, the front tire will be replaced free of charge because of the matching requirements of the motorcycle although the front tires are not included in this product defect recall. The safety recall is expected to begin this month. Owners may contact Bridgestone at 1-800-465-1904 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236.

Defective Tires Likely Caused South Carolina Learjet Plane Crash

Federal investigators are saying that a blown tire may have caused the Learjet chartered plane crash in South Carolina. The plane crash victims included four Southern California residents and two celebrity musicians – former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and disc jockey DJ AM aka Adam Goldstein. The celebrity musicians were the only survivors of the crash, suffering serious burns. According to a Sept. 22 article in The Orange County Register, those who died in the crash were Sara Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills; James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad; Chris Baker, 29; and Charles Still, 25. The musicians who suffered severe burns are expected to survive and recover.

Investigators for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the cockpit crew reported the tire blowout to the air traffic controller. A recording obtained by investigators also indicates what seemed to be a tire blowout. According to air traffic controllers at Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina, they saw sparks fly from the Learjet. NTSB investigators say pieces of tire recovered from the runway indicated that Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. manufactured the tires for Learjet. The jet, headed for Van Nuys, is owned by Global Exec Aviation.
