A woman was killed and two others were injured in a Los Angeles car accident the morning of May 28, 2011. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal car crash occurred on Soledad Canyon, near Langside Avenue, in Santa Clarita. For unknown reasons, the car swerved left and crashed into the center median and then struck a tree. The woman died at the scene of the crash and two male occupants sustained critical injuries. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the woman killed in this tragic car accident. My thoughts and prayers are also with the two men who have been critically injured. I wish them the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Los Angeles Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 11 people were killed and 552 were injured in Santa Clarita car accidents. During that same year, there were 667 fatalities and 52,229 injuries reported as a result of Los Angeles County car accidents.

What Caused This Single Vehicle Crash?

It is not clear from the report how the crash occurred or even which one of the individuals was driving the vehicle. There are more questions here than answers. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs? Was speed a factor in this crash? Was there an auto defect or mechanical malfunction in the vehicle, which led to this fatal injury accident? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which caused the driver to lose control? Was this vehicle run off the roadway by another car? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred and why.

Liability Issues

If the car accident was caused by an auto defect, then the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. If the driver is determined to have been intoxicated or driving recklessly, then, he or she can be held liable for the injuries caused to the passengers. Injured victims or families of deceased victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
